The Community of Lake Linden
For many people, rural communities are the ideal place to live and raise a family. People locate to rural areas because of a preference for a safe, friendly, family-focused routine associated with a small-town way of life. These shared values can be promoted as quality-of-life incentives to bring people back to small towns throughout the country. No place serves this ideal better or is more indicative of this sense of community than Lake Linden.
Communities are made up of people working together to improve the situation in which they live. Individuals are involved in their neighborhoods, schools and businesses and may feel a stronger sense of belonging and community connection. Residents have a shared sense of identity or community, and when this community pride is felt by residents it can be seen and felt by visitors as well.
Whether visiting our friendly town or considering a move to a "community" for any of the reasons stated above, Lake Linden has much to offer. We have a wide variety of recreational opportunities and four seasons in which to enjoy them. Our village park system has a campground, sports facilities, 18-hole disc golf course, marina, playground, and nature trail. Also within a short drive are ATV/snowmobile trails, world-class skiing at two resorts, dozens of miles or groomed cross-country ski trails, fishing and boating on inland lakes and Lake Superior, and much more.
Lake Linden also has strong ties to the regional Copper Mining heritage. The Houghton County Historical Society sits on the site of the Calumet & Hecla Mill adjacent to the Village and there are many local sites and museums that tell the story of the "Copper Country". Lake Linden's downtown is, in fact, a National Historic District and contains several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.
Lake Linden's community pride can be seen in our school district and its sports programs as well. The Lake Linden - Hubbell School District School Forest is a unique resource with a log cabin with a beautiful stone fireplace, kitchen area and indoor restrooms. The building is equipped with telephone and wireless internet service. The School Forest also boasts a large fire pit area for campfires, an archery range and a GPS Course that includes 15 geocache sites. In 2002, the School Forest was the recipient of the first ever "Volkswoods Citation" by the National Woodland Owners Association for demonstrating good forestry and providing educational opportunities for children.
The sports facilities in the district are second to none and when a newly-renovated Warner Field hosts Saturday afternoon football games in front of a crowd larger than the population of the Village itself you will get a sense for how this small community helped dedicated student-athletes bring back two State football Championships.
Lake Linden wants to see you! So if you are considering a move here or planning a vacation please contact us. Although, as part of the community, we are completely biased, we promise to do our best to convey our "community pride" and help you out as much as we can.
